Advice for one afflicted with the disease of envy

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter from the sender (M. J. M.) from Makkah al-Mukarramah. She says in her letter: I want to repent to Allah from this characteristic of envy, this blameworthy trait, and I am trying to get rid of it as much as possible. However, Satan beautifies it for me on many occasions through jealousy. I become jealous of my female colleagues or other women, and then I envy them. I heard from a friend of mine that she says: "Hold back your jealousy and envy in your heart and do not utter it with your tongue, so that Allah does not hold you accountable for it." Please inform us what we should do? May Allah reward you.
Answer: Yes, if you feel something, strive against yourself and hold back what is in you, and do not do anything that contradicts the Shari'ah. Do not harm the one you envy, whether male or female, not by word or deed. Ask Allah to remove it from your heart and that it does not harm you. If a person envies but does not accomplish anything, it does not harm him, provided he did not harm the one he envied, nor remove his blessing, nor speak ill of his honor, but rather it was something within himself that he held back, then it does not harm him. However, he must be cautious so that he does not say something that causes harm or do something. Indeed, it came in the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Avoid envy, for envy devours good deeds just as fire devours fuelإياكم والحسد فإن الحسد يأكل الحسنات كما تأكل النار الحطب
Sunan Abi Dawud 4903Da'if (Al-Albani)
So envy is evil, but it begins with its owner, harming his companion before anyone else.
Therefore, the believing man and woman should be cautious of that by asking Allah for well-being. The believer supplicates to Allah, and likewise the believing woman supplicates to Allah to remove that from her heart so that nothing remains in it. Whenever she feels something, let her strive to hold it back and keep it in the heart without harm to the one she envies, neither actual harm nor verbal harm. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
