What is the cure for the disease of envy?

Question:
I love you for the sake of Allah, O Shaykh, and I ask Allah to place us, you, and all Muslims in the shade of His Throne on the Day when there is no shade except His. Then he asks: We face a serious problem, which is the disease of envy. I have tried to take the measures to ward off the disease of envy from myself, but to no avail. I hope you will guide me to the effective cure, and may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
As for love for the sake of Allah, we say: May Allah love you, for you loved us for His sake. And the texts regarding love have already been mentioned.
As for envy: it is a chronic disease, but you must strive to keep it away from yourself, ask Allah for safety from it, and remember that the blessings of Allah are not something anyone can take back. You are wronging yourself and wronging your brother in this. Allah is the Bestower who bestowed upon you and upon your brother, so why do you envy him for the blessings of Allah? You should fear Allah, and know that your Lord is Wise, and that envy is a challenge to Allah. So strive against your self, ask your Lord for success and guidance, and beware of this envy. Love for your brother what you love for yourself in terms of knowledge, virtue, and good, and beware of following Satan in this, for it will harm you greatly.
And more severe and evil than this is to act on the envy by harming him or wronging him. Mere envy harms you, but if you add to it by speech or action, it becomes a great evil and injustice. So beware of harming yourself with envy, or harming your brother by speech or action, and ask your Lord for success and assistance: [Al-Talaq:2].
