The Ruling on Zakah on Women's Jewelry

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His fourth and final inquiry in this letter asks: Is it obligatory to pay zakah on women's jewelry if its value is ten thousand or more?
Answer: Yes, women's jewelry made of gold and silver is subject to zakah according to the correct opinion. There is disagreement among the scholars, but the correct opinion among the scholars is that zakah is due on it if it reaches the nisab. The nisab is twenty mithqals, which amounts to eleven and a half Saudi pounds, or ninety-two grams; ninety-two grams is equivalent to eleven and a half pounds.
Therefore, if this gold reaches the nisab, you pay zakah on it: twenty-five out of every thousand. Likewise, if the silver reaches fifty-six riyals or more, you pay zakah on it at a quarter of a tenth. Similarly, if the wealth increases, zakah is paid at a quarter of a tenth, which is twenty-five out of every thousand. If the amount is ten thousand, its zakah is two hundred and fifty, because its tenth is one thousand, and a quarter of a tenth is two hundred and fifty out of the ten thousand. Yes.
The presenter: Does the husband pay zakah on his wife's jewelry?
The Shaykh: It is not obligatory for him. No, the zakah is her responsibility. However, if he helps her with it and she permits and consents, there is no harm in him paying zakah on her behalf if she permits; otherwise, the zakah is her responsibility for her jewelry. This is because the hadiths indicating this point to the fact that the zakah is her responsibility, and the texts have come indicating the obligation of zakah on jewelry. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
