The Nisab of Zakah on Gold and the Ruling on Zakah on Jewelry

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, this questioner says: What is the amount of zakah on gold? And is there zakah on gold used for adornment?
Please explain that to us, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
The zakah on gold is one-quarter of a tenth, and likewise for silver, one-quarter of a tenth. From every one hundred, it is two and a half, and from one thousand, it is twenty-five.
It is obligatory on the jewelry that a woman wears, according to the correct opinion. So if it reaches the nisab, zakah becomes obligatory on it, whether it is necklaces, bracelets, belts, or otherwise; zakah is obligatory on it. The nisab is twenty mithqals of gold, meaning: its amount is eleven and a half Saudi pounds, ninety-two grams. So if a woman has the nisab in jewelry, zakah becomes obligatory on it when a lunar year has passed over it. So if the jewelry amounts to, for example, twenty thousand, the zakah is one-quarter of a tenth, which is five hundred; because one-tenth of twenty thousand is two thousand, and one-quarter of a tenth is five hundred. If it amounts to fifty thousand in jewelry, one-quarter of a tenth is: one-tenth is five thousand, and one-quarter of a tenth is one thousand two hundred and fifty, whether it is gold or silver. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
