The ruling on the prayer of the followers if their imam forgets that he prayed without ablution

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He also asks and says: If the imam leads the prayer without having performed ablution, and he prays part of the prayer, then he remembers that he had not performed ablution and leaves, do the followers continue from where they left off, or do they restart the prayer?
Answer: The correct view in this matter is that someone should be appointed to lead them in prayer. If he did not appoint anyone, but they appointed someone to complete the prayer with them, it is valid. This is the stronger of the opinions of the scholars. If he entered the prayer without ablution, but he completed it with them and then remembered afterward, their prayer is valid. Similarly, if he remembers during the prayer, according to the most correct of the two opinions. If he appoints someone to complete the prayer with them, praise be to Allah. If he does not appoint anyone, they may appoint someone to complete the prayer with them. If each person completes the prayer for himself, that suffices him according to the most correct of the opinions of the scholars. And success is from Allah. Yes.
