Ruling on ceasing to associate with those who abandon prayer and eating with them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter we received from Salah Abdul Rahman Hussein, an Egyptian national residing in Basra, Iraq. The questioner says in his letter: I live in a room with some Egyptian brothers who do not pray, while I do pray, praise be to Allah. However, I advise them to pray, but they make excuses that are not convincing. Therefore, I do not accept sharing meals with them and eat alone. When they spoke at length about the reason I eat alone, I told them that I do not eat with a Muslim who does not pray. Is my action toward them correct or not?
Answer: Yes, you have done well and hit the mark as long as they persist in abandoning prayer and do not accept your advice. It is obligatory to hate them for the sake of Allah, not to accompany them, and not to eat with them; because these people are apostates from Islam according to the most correct opinion of the scholars. Whoever abandons prayer becomes an apostate according to the most correct opinion of the scholars. Therefore, it is obligatory to reject them and not keep their company. It is also recommended that you not remain with them in the room, but rather be in another place so that their proximity does not harm you; because the company of the wicked and proximity to them entails great danger. So we ask Allah to grant them repentance, to guide them to the right path, to protect them from the evil of Satan and the soul that commands evil, and to grant them repentance. As for you, you have done well in advising them, and you have done well in separating from them so that you are not affected by any of their evil. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. In fact, at the end of this question, he says: I am unable to live alone due to the high rent. I have searched for people who pray to live with so that I can separate from these people, but I was unable to do so. What is the ruling on my remaining with them while separating from them in eating and the like?
The Shaykh: There is no blame on you until you find a sincere alternative; there is no blame on you for remaining with them while hating them for the sake of Allah and advising them, until you find another place and other companions. And be glad of good, for Allah the Exalted says:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا ۝ وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَحْتَسِبُ
[Al-Talaq: 2-3], and He says: :
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq: 4]. So be glad, for Allah will make for you a relief and a way out because of your sincerity and because of your striving in the path of Allah in advising these people and distancing yourself from their evil and disavowing their deeds. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
