The Description of the Victorious Group
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter from the sender (M. M. M.) from Riyadh. She says in her letter: The sects and groups that claim to be the victorious group have multiplied, and the matter has become confusing for many people. What should we do, especially since there are groups that claim affiliation with Islam, such as the Sufis and the Salafis, and other such groups? How do we distinguish between them? May Allah reward you.
Answer: It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 3992Hasan (Darussalam) meaning: all of them are in the Fire except one, and they are the followers of Moses. Sunan Ibn Majah 3992Hasan (Darussalam) and the meaning is: all of them are in the Fire except one, and they are the followers of 'Isa (peace be upon him). He said: and in another wording: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2641Da'if (Darussalam) This is the saved group who agreed upon the truth that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought, and they stood firm upon it, and they proceeded upon the path of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the path of his Companions. They are the people of the Sunnah and the community, and they are the people of the noble hadith, the Salafis, who followed the righteous Salaf and proceeded upon their path in acting upon the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Every group that contradicts them is threatened with the Fire.
So you, O questioner! should look into every group that claims to be the saved group. Look into their deeds. If their deeds are in accordance with the Shari'ah, then they are of the saved group; otherwise, they are not.
The point is: the standard is the great Qur'an and the pure Sunnah regarding every group. Whosever deeds... every group whose deeds and words proceed upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), that group is included in the saved group.
And whoever is contrary to that, such as the Jahmiyyah, the Mu'tazilah, the Rafidah, the Murji'ah, and others, and most of the Sufis who innovate in the religion what Allah has not permitted, all of these are included in the groups that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) threatened with the Fire, until they repent from what contradicts the Shari'ah. Every group that has something that contradicts the pure Shari'ah must repent from it and return to the correct path, to the truth that our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) brought. By this, they will be saved from the threat.
As for if they remain upon the religious innovations they introduced in the religion and do not stand firm upon the way of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), then they are included in the threatened groups. They are not all disbelievers, no, rather they are threatened with the Fire. There may be among them one who is a disbeliever because he did something of disbelief, and there may be among them one who is not a disbeliever but is threatened with the Fire because of what he innovated in the religion and legislated in the religion that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has not permitted. Yes.

The Jews split into seventy-one sects
افترقت اليهود على إحدى وسبعين فرقةThe Christians split into seventy-two sects
وافترقت النصارى على ثنتين وسبعين فرقةAnd this Ummah—meaning the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)—will split into seventy-three groups, all of them in the Fire except one. It was said: O Messenger of Allah! Who is the saved group? He said: The Jama'ah
What I am upon and my Companions.
