The ruling on raising the hands in supplication after the prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: Finally, he asks: Is raising the hands after the prayer reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or not? May Allah reward you with good?
The answer: We do not know of any basis for this. Rather, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he would conclude the prayer with the taslim, would seek forgiveness from Allah three times and say:
"O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity."اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام
Sunan Abi Dawud 1512Sahih (Al-Albani)
Then he would say:
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no power and no strength except by Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the blessing, His is the favor, and His is the good praise. There is no god but Allah, sincere to Him in religion, even if the disbelievers should be displeased. O Allah, there is no one who can prevent what You have given, and there is no one who can give what You have prevented, and the wealth of the wealthy does not benefit him against You.
Sahih Muslim 594a
This is how he would do it after every prayer of the five prayers: Fajr, Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, and 'Isha. He would recite these dhikr. And it is prescribed for his Ummah that a person should glorify Allah thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times, and magnify Him thirty-three times. This is a sunnah (recommended practice). And to complete the hundred, he says: "There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent." Or he says twenty-five times: "Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest." Twenty-five times after every prayer of the five prayers. This is an act of nearness and obedience. And he recites the Verse of the Throne, reading the Verse of the Throne
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existenceاللَّهُ لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ
[al-Baqarah:255] after every prayer of the five prayers. And it is prescribed for him to read
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[al-Ikhlas:1] along with the two Mu'awwidhat
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[al-Ikhlas:1]
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreakقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
[al-Falaq:1]
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
[al-Nas:1] after every prayer. This is the best. And he repeats these three surahs three times after Fajr and three times after Maghrib. And likewise when going to sleep, he recites them three times. All of this is sunnah (recommended practice).
As for after the voluntary prayers, I do not recall anything after the voluntary prayers. I do not know that he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands after the voluntary prayers. I mean, if a person raises his hands at times, that is because raising the hands is among the causes of the acceptance of supplication, and so it is in other supplications. If he raises his hands, this is among the causes of the acceptance of supplication. But he does not raise his hands after the five prayers, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not raise his hands after them. His doing it is sunnah (recommended practice), and his leaving it is sunnah (recommended practice), (peace and blessings be upon him). And likewise on Friday, he did not raise his hands when he concluded the Friday prayer, nor in his sermon when he delivered the Friday sermon, nor on the festival. He did not raise his hands. But if he sought rain in the sermon, he raised his hands. He would, if he sought rain in the Friday sermon or in the festival prayer, raise his hands asking for rain. This was the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
And raising the hands is among the causes of the acceptance of supplication in the places where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave it, in the places where he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised them, or where it is not reported from him that he left raising them. As for the places where he left raising them, in the five prayers after the five prayers, or on Friday, or in the festival prayer, one does not raise his hands in them, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not raise them in them. It is not recorded that he raised his hands in any of the five prayers, nor after completing the Friday prayer, nor after completing the festival prayer. And the sunnah (recommended practice) is to follow him (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.
