Our sister also asks and says: Ibn Kathir stated in his tafsir: We were narrated from the route of al-Sha'bi that he said: Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: And in another narration: Sunan ad-Darimi 23:78 Is this hadith reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?
Answer: This hadith is weak; because al-Sha'bi did not meet Ibn Mas'ud and did not hear from him, and it is a broken chain (munqati'). However, what concerns the Verse of the Throne is preserved. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the one who reads the Verse of the Throne at night when going to sleep:Sahih al-Bukhari 3275 The origin of this is that Abu Hurayrah was the agent for the charity—charity of zakat al-fitr—so a devil came to take from the charity, and he seized him on the first night, knowing that it was a devil. The devil said: Let me go, I have dependents and I am poor. So Abu Hurayrah let him go and had mercy on him. Then he came to him the second time and said the same: Let me go, I am poor with dependents. Then he came to him the third time and he seized him, saying: I will surely take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); this is the third night and you keep saying: I will not return. The devil said: Let me teach you words by which Allah will benefit you: If you go to your bed, read: [Al-Baqarah 2:255] until you reach: [al-Baqarah: 255], for there will remain with you a protector from Allah, and no devil will approach you until you rise. Abu Hurayrah said: So I released him, then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (He spoke the truth) meaning: in what he said (and he is a liar); the devil is known for lying, but what he said regarding the Verse of the Throne is true. Whoever reads it in a night, a protector from Allah will remain with him, and no devil will approach him until he rises. It is recommended that the believing man and woman read it when going to sleep. And in Sahih Muslim, it is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih Muslim 780 meaning: the whole surah. Its recitation in the house is among the causes of the devil fleeing. It is a great surah, and it is the longest surah in the Book of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He). If the believer reads it, it is among the causes of the devil leaving his house. However, it is not necessary that he does not return; he may leave and then return. If he fights him with the prescribed dhikr and seeking refuge, this is among the causes of safety. Just as when he hears the call to prayer, he turns away and has a discharge of wind, and when the adhan is finished, he returns to whisper between the person and his heart, saying to him: Remember such and such, remember such and such in his prayer. And likewise, when he hears the iqamah, he turns away and has a discharge of wind, and when the iqamah ends, he returns to whisper to the believer, saying to him: Remember such and such, remember such and such. So he is the enemy of Allah, eager to corrupt the deeds of the children of Adam and their worship, and to cause confusion for them. The believer should be eager for the lawful seeking of refuge as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) has prescribed for him, so that Allah protects him from his evil (may Allah be pleased with him).
The remembrance of Allah is among the means of driving away Shaytan, and so are the prescribed formulas of seeking refuge. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says in His great Book: [Al-A'raf: 200] So the stings of the devils are their whispers. If the believer seeks refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, this is among the means of safety and well-being from the schemes of the enemy of Allah. Likewise, frequenting the remembrance of Allah drives away Shaytan. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says: [Al-Zukhruf: 36] So frequenting the remembrance of Allah is among the means of driving away Shaytan and being safe from his schemes and stings. Negligence is among the means of his being empowered. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Al-Nas: 1-4] The scholars said: The meaning of that is that he is a whisperer during negligence and a retreater during remembrance. Whenever the servant is negligent, he whispers to him and harms him; and whenever he increases in the remembrance of Allah, the enemy of Allah retreats, becomes small, and is subdued.

Whoever reads ten verses from Surat al-Baqarah in a night, no devil will enter that house that night: four from its beginning, the Verse of the Throne, two after it, and three from its end.
من قرأ عشر آيات من سورة البقرة في ليلة لم يدخل ذلك البيت شيطان تلك الليلة أربع من أولها وآية الكرسي وآيتان بعدها وثلاث آيات من آخرهاNo devil or anything he dislikes will approach him or his household that day, and if it is recited over a madman, he will recover.

إن الشيطان يفر من البيت الذي تقرأ فيه سورة البقرةThe remembrance of Allah is among the means of driving away Shaytan, and so are the prescribed formulas of seeking refuge. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says in His great Book:
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah
