Ruling on abandoning voluntary fasting for one who was consistent in it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling regarding a woman who used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, but then abandoned that fasting due to physical weakness?

Answer:
There is no blame on her for that. Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is recommended, not obligatory. Whoever fasts it receives reward, and whoever abandons it has done nothing wrong. If she had a habit of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays and then abandoned it due to weakness that overtook her, or due to some tasks or needs that occupied her in the house, or for other reasons, there is no blame on her for that.
The point is that fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is a voluntary prayer, and so is fasting three days of every month, and so is fasting six days of Shawwal. All of this is a recommended voluntary act. Whoever fasts it has done nothing wrong, and whoever abandons it has done nothing wrong. And whoever fasts in some years and abandons it in other years has done nothing wrong. The matter is broad, and praise is due to Allah.

The presenter: Praise be to Allah, may Allah reward you with good.
