The ruling on the imam praying without a turban

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter reached the program from South Yemen, sent by the listener Iyad Muhammad Salim Abdullah. One of his questions says: Is it permissible to pray in congregation behind an imam who is not wearing a turban? And is the turban part of the Sunnah in prayer?

Answer:
It is permissible for the imam to pray without a turban. It is not a condition for the prayer, nor is it a Sunnah in the prayer. However, it is better for a person to pray in his usual adornment; because Allah said:
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjidيَا بَنِي آدَمَ خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ
[Al-A'raf: 31], meaning: at every prayer. So if he prays in his usual custom, that is better and more appropriate, because if he leaves it off, people may find it objectionable, and it may cast doubt on his mind, or his balance, or his morals.
So the conclusion is: if it is the custom of the people of his country that they pray wearing a turban, he should not leave off the turban; he should pray wearing a turban, so that no one thinks ill of him, and so that it is not said of him that he is lax, or that he does not care about the dress of the people, or something similar. Otherwise, it is not a condition. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None of you should offer Salat (prayer) in a single garment with no part of it on his shoulders.لا يصلي أحدكم في الثوب الواحد ليس على عاتقه منه شيء
Bulugh al-Maram 2:72
and he did not say: "on his head," but rather he said:
with no part of it on his shoulderليس على عاتقه منه شيء
Sunan an-Nasa'i 769Sahih (Darussalam)
.
So what is prescribed is: to pray in an izar and a rida. As for the head, if he prays with it uncovered, there is no harm. The Sunnah is to pray in a shirt, or in an izar and a rida. And if it is the custom of the country that the head is covered with a turban, or a ghutrah, or something, or a taqiyah, or a qalansuwah, he should pray as they used to pray, so that no one thinks of him what is not appropriate. And if he leaves it off because they leave it off, and no harm results from that, there is no blame. And if he leaves it off intentionally, his prayer is valid, but he is advised to do it so that no one thinks of him what is not the best. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
