The ruling on one who dies in childbirth and does not pray

Question:
The listener (H. S. N.) from Syria sent a message saying: My wife died while giving birth, and many people among us say that she is a martyr, and that a martyr goes to Paradise, even though my wife did not pray. Is she considered among the martyrs?

Answer:
Death due to childbirth is martyrdom, as stated in some hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a woman dies as a result of childbirth. However, the one who does not pray is not a Muslim, and martyrdom is only for the Muslim. As for the one who does not pray, there is a text from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stating that he is a disbeliever. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is the most correct of the scholars' opinions: the one who deliberately abandons prayer and does not pray is not considered a Muslim, whether male or female. Therefore, no funeral prayer is performed for him, he is not buried with the Muslims, he is not washed, and he is not shrouded, because he abandoned the pillar of Islam. We ask Allah for safety.
