Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to the message from listener Hisham Uthman Abdullah from Sudan. We presented one of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks and says: I am the employer of three workers in the construction field, and I give each worker a specific daily wage.
Knowing that my daily wage is ten times the wage of a single worker, is what I obtain from the workers' sweat lawful for me or forbidden?
Please advise us. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
If you agreed with the employer that he would give you a multiple of what he gives the worker, then the matter is up to him, and there is no blame on you in that.
However, if you are the one who imposed this for yourself, then it is obligatory for you to inform the owner of the work. If he permits you what you have decided, that is fine; otherwise, it is not permissible for you to take something he does not know about. You must inform the owner of the work so that he can set a wage for you for your work and instruct you regarding the wages you pay to the workers.
In summary: You must return to the owner of the work, for he is the one who sets your wage or grants you permission to set the wages for the workers. He is the one who sets your wage, whether it is the same as the worker's, more, or less. It is not permissible for you to set a wage for yourself without the permission of the owner of the work. Yes.
