What is the meaning of qunut?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
You also ask, saying: What is qunut? That is: What is the meaning of qunut?

Answer:
Qunut has several meanings, among which are: continuous obedience, humility, and silence. However, qunut in the witr prayer refers to making supplications after the witr, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught al-Hasan ibn 'Ali. When he rises from the bowing in the final rak'ah with which he prays witr, he says after the bowing and after the prescribed dhikr: "Our Lord, to You belongs all praise..." and so on, saying:
O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, and grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being, and take charge of me among those whom You have taken charge of, and bless me in what You have given me, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. Indeed, You decree and none decrees over You. And indeed, he whom You befriend is not humbled, and he whom You oppose is not honored. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, and in Your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself.
.
This is the prescribed practice in the qunut of witr, whether one prays witr at the beginning of the night, in the middle of the night, or at the end of it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught this to al-Hasan ibn 'Ali, who said: "The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me words to say in the qunut of witr:
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 464Sahih (Darussalam)
This is the end of al-Hasan's report. In another narration, it was added that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in his witr:
I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot praise You enough, You are as You have praised yourself.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 169Sahih (Darussalam)
And if one adds other supplications that are not lengthy, there is no harm. Yes.
