What is required of one who stole money and does not know some of its owners?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a message from the listener (M. M. al-Mukhtar) from the city of Jubail Industrial City. He says: What is the ruling on one who took forbidden money from several people; and this was before he reached the age of maturity, and after he reached the age of maturity he repented to his Lord and sought His forgiveness, and he wants to return the money to its owners, and he does not know the amount of that sum, but he exerted himself in estimating it, and without wronging any of them -if Allah wills-, and also there is a person among these people whose name he does not know, nor his place of residence, so should he give charity on his behalf or not?
Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
As for those whom he knows, he must deliver their right to them, according to his best effort, and according to what is most likely in his opinion, and he must seek their pardon and ask them to forgive what has passed and what occurred.
As for the one whose identity is unknown, and he does not know whether he is alive or dead? And he does not know his heirs, then he must give charity on his behalf with the intention, on behalf of the owner of the right, along with repentance to Allah, and sincerity in that, and your obligation is cleared -if Allah wills- by that, yes.
