The Ruling on Slaughter with the Intention of the Sacrifice for a Newborn and Fulfilling a Vow

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
His other question says: A man has had a vow since the year 1394 AH. Instead of slaughtering two sheep for his son's sacrifice for a newborn, he slaughtered one sheep and included the vow with it as his intention. He did not inform those he invited to this wedding feast. Is he considered to have fulfilled his vow or not?

Answer:
The vow differs: If it is a vow to slaughter a sheep in his home for his relatives, neighbors, and guests, then if he slaughters it with the intention of the vow and serves it to his guests, there is no harm. However, if he made an absolute vow, not intending it for his household, relatives, or guests, or if he made a vow intending it for the poor, then he does not fulfill it until he delivers it to the poor. For the destination of vows is the poor. So if he does not have a specific intention, he gives the vow to the poor. If the vow is a sheep, for example, or a camel, or a cow, he slaughters it and distributes it among the poor.
Unless he has a specific intention, such as saying, for example: "It is upon me for the sake of Allah, if Allah grants me a male child, that I slaughter a sheep, cow, or camel," and his intention is that he will slaughter it for his household, neighbors, and guests, then he acts according to his intention. And if he does not have an intention, it is given to the poor and distributed among the poor. He does not eat it, nor does his household, nor his guests. Yes.

The presenter: Meaning: Combining the vow with the sacrifice for a newborn?

The Shaykh: It is not valid.

The presenter: This...

The Shaykh: The vow is independent, and the sacrifice for a newborn is independent. The sacrifice for a newborn is a recommended practice (sunnah) that is independent, and the vow is an independent obligation.

The presenter: And this is what he did.

The Shaykh: So if he slaughtered one of the sheep for the sheep he owed by the vow, his intention is examined. If he intended that the sheep for the vow would be slaughtered in his home for the guests, relatives, and neighbors, then he has fulfilled it. He fulfilled it by serving it to his guests and his household.
And as for if he did not intend this, but made a vow without this intention, the destination of vows is the poor. The one he slaughtered for the sacrifice for a newborn does not suffice. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
