The Preferred Time for Standing in Night Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Abdullah Ali Muhsin, from Shabwah, Yemen, asks: What is your opinion, Your Eminence, regarding one who aims to perform the night prayer one hour and fifteen minutes before the Fajr adhan? Because if I pray at one or two o’clock after midnight, I sometimes sleep through the Fajr prayer with the congregation.

Answer:
It is better to delay the night prayer until the last part of the night, so that you pray what Allah has made easy for you and attend the Fajr prayer. As for praying in the middle of the night and then sleeping, there is a fear that you may sleep through Fajr. Therefore, it is obligatory for you to be cautious; it is obligatory for you to strive to ensure that you do not miss the Fajr prayer, because praying it in congregation is a necessary matter. A man must pray Fajr in congregation like the other prayers; he does not have the option to pray it at home. So, pray in the last part of the night so that you combine both matters. Set the time for near the dawn; if there is an hour or more remaining, pray in that time, then go to the mosque. When the adhan is called, head to the mosque. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah preserve you.
