The ruling on a man using henna at a wedding

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Another question. You say: What is your opinion of this practice, which is that some people, when their son gets married, do for him what they call henna. This takes place on the night before the wedding. Some men and women come to the groom's house, and they seat the groom in the center. They take and give him money. After this activity, the groom's mother applies henna to his hands, and to his face and their faces. May Allah reward you.
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Henna is a characteristic of women; it is part of women's adornment. Therefore, it is not permissible to use it with the groom, nor with any other man. Henna is part of women's adornment, and something women do to beautify themselves for their husbands.
Therefore, it is not permissible to treat a man in this way, nor for a man to use it. Rather, he should stay away from it; indeed, he must stay away from imitating women.
And it is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) that he said:
May Allah curse the man who wears the clothing of a woman, and may Allah curse the woman who wears the clothing of a manلعن الله الرجل يلبس لبسة المرأة، ولعن الله المرأة تلبس لبسة الرجل
.
And it was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed those men who are in the similitude (assume the manners) of women and those women who are in the similitude (assume the manners) of men.أنه لعن المتشبهين من الرجال بالنساء والمتشبهات من النساء بالرجال
Sahih al-Bukhari 5885
This encompasses all types of imitation.
Therefore, it is obligatory to be cautious of imitating women in the groom's use of henna, or in anything else that is a characteristic of women.
As for their gathering with the groom, men and women, giving him money, this requires detailed consideration. Their gathering is mixed, and they are not mahrams to one another; the women are foreign to them. This is not permissible. The mixing of men and women is not allowed except in a manner that involves modesty, distance from the causes of fitnah, and covering and veiling. Just as people gather in their homes, a woman may gather with her husband's relatives, and with the husbands of her sisters, with covering and modesty, to discuss certain matters. There is no harm in that.
As for mixing that involves a lack of veiling and a lack of distance from the causes of fitnah, this is not permissible.
Likewise, it is not permissible for a foreign woman to be in seclusion with the groom. If she is in seclusion with him, that is also not permissible.
As for giving him money, if it is in the way of assistance, helping him with the marriage as a form of support, there is no harm. Whether they give him money or something other than money, it is in the spirit of cooperation in good. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
