Question:
The questioner (S. S. S) says: We live in a town that has no electricity, but she says: My husband and I live in a house where workers for a government clinic reside, and the electricity in it works day and night. We took a wire from this clinic and connected it to our house, and this was done without the knowledge of the electricity company responsible for the clinic's meters. Is this forbidden?
Answer:
Yes. This is not permissible; taking it without right is not allowed. You must consult the responsible authority until they grant permission. Allah has forbidden the blood, wealth, and honor of His servants, and this falls under wealth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people during the Farewell Pilgrimage and spoke on the Day of 'Arafah and on the Day of Sacrifice, in the presence of the witnesses, addressing the people:Sahih Muslim 1679b Thus the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people in the presence of the witnesses on the Day of 'Arafah and the Day of Sacrifice. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 3933Sahih (Darussalam) So no one has the right to take from the wealth of another without right, whether it is a company, a government, or otherwise.
