How a Muslim Can Know the Measure of His Faith
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In the last of the questioner Abu Ahmad’s questions, he asks: How does a Muslim know the measure of his faith?
Answer:
It is according to his fear of Allah and his magnification of Allah, his hastening to what Allah has made obligatory, and his leaving of what Allah has forbidden; this indicates the strength of faith. And if he is lax in sins, this indicates the weakness of faith.
So strong faith is that which includes the fear of Allah, His mindfulness, hastening to what is obligatory, and caution regarding what is forbidden. This is evidence of the strength of faith and that its owner is upon good.
As for if he is lax in sins, leaving the congregational prayer, undutifulness to parents, backbiting, talebearing, and dealing in usury or interest; this indicates the weakness of faith and the scantiness of faith. There is no power and no strength except with Allah.
