How Faith Increases and Decreases

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: What is the manner in which faith increases, O Shaykh?

Answer:
Faith increases and decreases. It increases through acts of obedience and decreases through sins. If a person prays the five daily prayers and maintains them, and prays these regular voluntary prayers (rawatib), his faith increases. If he neglects the regular voluntary prayers, his faith decreases. Or if he neglects zakah, his faith decreases. Or if he neglects fasting, his faith decreases. Or if he neglects maintaining family ties, his faith decreases. And so on.
Faith decreases through sin and increases through acts of obedience. It increases in his record of deeds, in his scale, and with his Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He) . Every time he performs an act of obedience, his faith increases. Every time he commits a sin, his faith decreases. And every time he leaves something of the obligatory duties, his faith decreases. And so on. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence.
