Is the witr prayer valid without the qunut supplication, and what is the ruling on supplicating before the taslim?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: "When I pray the odd-numbered prayer and perform witr, sometimes I do not supplicate after the ruku' in the witr; I only prostrate, then I say the taslim. Is my prayer valid? Or is there something else? And is it permissible for me to supplicate after the tashahhud in the witr, instead of supplicating after the ruku'? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good."

Answer:
The qunut is recommended in the witr, it is not obligatory. However, it is recommended for one who has memorized it to perform the qunut in the witr after the ruku' in the last rak'ah, which is the single rak'ah with which one prays witr, either at the beginning of the night or at its end. One performs the qunut by saying:
Allahumma ihdini fiman hadayta wa 'afini fiman afayta
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1745Sahih (Darussalam)
and so on. This is because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) taught it to al-Hasan, the son of his daughter, and the teaching of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to one person is teaching for everyone. So if that is easy, it is better; otherwise, there is no blame, and praise be to Allah, for it is not obligatory. And if a person supplicates after the tashahhud, before he says the taslim, that is also recommended. Supplicating at the end of the tashahhud, before saying the taslim, is recommended. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught the Companions, and when he taught them the tashahhud, he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him most and recite it.
Bulugh al-Maram 2:203
, and in the other wording:
Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him.
Sahih Muslim 402b
.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in his prayer, at the end of the tashahhud, before saying the taslim, after the tashahhud and after the salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He would supplicate, and it is recommended that one recites the tashahhud, then sends salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then seeks refuge with Allah from the punishment of the Hellfire, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjal, the false messiah. Then one supplicates with whatever Allah has made pleasing of the good supplications reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as:
O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1522Sahih (Al-Albani)
,
Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wala yaghfirudhdhunuba illa anta, Faghfirli maghfiratan min indika war-hamni, innaka antalGhafur-Rahim.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6326
. This is a great supplication.
Likewise, supplicating with what is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in al-Bukhari:
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni, wa a'udhu bika an uradda ila ardhalil-'umuri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatid-dunya, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabr (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from miserliness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice, and I seek refuge in You from reaching the age of senility, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of this world, and I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave)اللهم إني أعوذ بك من البخل، وأعوذ بك من الجبن، وأعوذ بك أن أرد إلى أرذل العمر، وأعوذ بك من فتنة الدنيا، ومن عذاب القبر
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5445Sahih (Darussalam)
. All of this is recommended before the salam, before one says the taslim. One should strive in supplication, and among the best of that is what was mentioned earlier:
O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1522Sahih (Al-Albani)
-for the man and the woman-
Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wala yaghfirudhdhunuba illa anta, Faghfirli maghfiratan min indika war-hamni, innaka antalGhafur-Rahim.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6326
,
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni, wa a'udhu bika an uradda ila ardhalil-'umuri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatid-dunya, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabr (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from miserliness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice, and I seek refuge in You from reaching the age of senility, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of this world, and I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave)اللهم إني أعوذ بك من البخل، وأعوذ بك من الجبن، وأعوذ بك أن أرد إلى أرذل العمر، وأعوذ بك من فتنة الدنيا، وأعوذ بك من عذاب القبر
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5445Sahih (Darussalam)
.
And among the supplications also at the end of the prayer, before the salam:
"O Allah, forgive me my former and latter sins, what I have kept secret and what I have done openly, and what I have done extravagance; and what You know better than I do. You are the Advancer, the Delayer, there is no god but You."
Sunan Abi Dawud 1509Sahih (Al-Albani)
. All of this is good, supplications at the end of the prayer before the salam. As for the qunut, it is recommended in the witr, in the last rak'ah after the ruku', and if one leaves it, there is no blame on him. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
