The Ruling on the Use of the Hand Drum by Women at Weddings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A group of young women asked this question: We attend wedding parties that include the hand drum and songs. These songs do not contain obscene language, if Allah wills. Sometimes the party is held outside the area. Is that permissible for us?

Answer:
The hand drum is prescribed for women in the context of marriage. If it is accompanied by proper songs or proper hymns, there is nothing wrong with it. However, using other instruments of amusement is not permissible. But the hand drum is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, for announcing the marriage. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of it. Hymns and songs that praise the husband or the wife, or the husband’s family or the wife’s family, contain no harm, praise be to Allah. As for other instruments of amusement, such as music and other things, and drums, no. Yes.
