The ruling on playing the hand drum at religious gatherings

May Allah reward you. In his second question, he asks: Is it permissible to use the hand drum at religious gatherings, or is it considered one of the forbidden musical instruments? Please inform us. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: The hand drum is only for women. This is what is permissible for women at weddings and similar matters concerning women. As for men, it is not permissible for them to use the hand drum, nor the drum, nor anything else; because it is one of the instruments of amusement. It is only permissible to play with spears... with weapons... with shooting... with rifles; because it is training for the affairs of war, as the Abyssinians did in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with shields and spears in his mosque (peace and blessings be upon him). There is nothing wrong with that. As for playing with hand drums, drums, and singing to them, this is not permissible. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
