The Difference Between Khata'ah, Sayyi'ah, Dhunb, and Ithm

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence is being asked about the difference between khata'ah, sayyi'ah, dhunb, and ithm?

Answer:
These are close concepts. Sayyi'ah, khata'ah, ithm, and dhunb are all close in meaning; that is, they refer to disobedience. Disobedience is called a dhunb, it is called a khata'ah, it is called an ithm, and it is called a dhunb. They are all synonymous and close in meaning. It is obligatory to be cautious. So, for example, sins like backbiting are called a dhunb, they are called disobedience, they are called an ithm, and they are called a khata'ah.
So, the conclusion is that the believer must avoid everything that Allah has forbidden, whether it is called a dhunb, an ithm, a khata'ah, or disobedience. He must be cautious of everything Allah has forbidden from all evil deeds, for they are called sins, they are called khata'at, they are called dhunub, they are called atham, and they are called ma'asi. So, let him be cautious of them. Everything that Allah has forbidden and prohibited, whether it is called a khata'ah, a sayyi'ah, disobedience, or an ithm; it is obligatory to be cautious of it and to stay away from it, because these are names for what Allah has forbidden. And ithm is used for what Allah has forbidden. Yes.
