Guidance for those not blessed with children

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner (Mustafa S.A.) from the Minya Governorate, Arab Republic of Egypt, says: My brother has been married for four years and has not been blessed with children. Some people told him that there is a work of the jinn, or that this is the work of the jinn, while others said that it is sorcery, or something similar. I ask you, Your Eminence, to clarify in detail: What is the course of action in such a case? Please note that this problem is complex and represents a burden for my brother, my mother, and me as well. May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence.

Answer:
Allah made the matter clear, saying -Exalted and Majestic is He-:
He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.يَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ إِنَاثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ الذُّكُورَ ۝
[Ash-Shuraa 42:49]
Or He makes them male and female, and He renders whom He wills barren [al-Shura: 49-50]. So people are of four categories: one is given males, one is given females, one is given males and females, and one is not given any offspring, being barren, as Allah has not decreed progeny for him.
So if he wishes to present himself to specialized doctors, perhaps there is an obstacle that can be treated, there is no harm in that. If treatment does not become available, then praise be to Allah.
As for visiting sorcerers and fortune-tellers, it is not permissible. It is not permissible to ask them or visit them, neither fortune-tellers nor sorcerers nor diviners. Rather, it is the specialized doctors who practice medicine and surgery, and who deal with the causes of infertility to study them. If it is found that there is a treatment for obstacles that prevented pregnancy other than infertility itself, meaning: if the doctor clarifies things that may have prevented pregnancy and treats them, there is no harm.
As for the barren person, there is no remedy for that. If Allah has decreed that he is barren, there is no remedy for that. But there may be causes that prevented pregnancy, which are treated by specialized doctors.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
