The questioner : My husband has given birth to seven daughters, and with every birth he wished to be granted a son. He is a believer, gentle, and prays, but he is overcome by a state of distress, and I tell him: be patient, for this is Allah's decree for you, and you are rewarded for it. Perhaps, Your Eminence, you could remind some fathers of the hadiths regarding the virtue of raising daughters and that he is rewarded for them if he raises them with Islamic upbringing?

The Shaykh : Yes. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said in His Book:
(49) To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males. (50) Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:49-50]
Thus, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, clarified in this verse four categories: males only, females only, those who have both, and those who are barren. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is All-Knowing, Wise, and All-Knowing, All-Powerful. He is the One in whose hand is everything. It is not wrong for a person to wish that Allah would grant him children, and this is not considered a rejection of Allah's decree or dissatisfaction with it.

The questioner : Praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : Just as a person might wish that Allah would grant him abundant provision, this is permissible if it helps him in obeying Allah.
As for the one to whom Allah has granted daughters and not sons, he should not despair; perhaps this son will come in the future. However, we advise him to be patient with the daughters, ask Allah for abundant provision for them, and strive to raise them with an Islamic upbringing. He should also choose for them husbands who are the most righteous, compatible, and beneficial.
There are hadiths narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicating the virtue of one who raises daughters and that they will be a shield for him from the Fire.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable one.
