Question:
We move on to another message received from Iraq, sent by one of our female listeners. She says: Ahlam Ibrahim Muhammad. We presented part of our sister's questions in a previous episode, and in this episode she asks and says: Is it permissible for me to pray the pre-prayer sunnah half an hour, a quarter of an hour, or more or less before the adhan?
I ask for your guidance. May Allah reward you with good, especially regarding the Maghrib prayer.
Answer:
The pre-prayer sunnah is performed after the time has entered. The pre-prayer sunnah for Maghrib, 'Asr, Zuhr, Fajr, and 'Isha are all after the time has entered. As for praying before the time has entered, this falls under the category of voluntary prayer. Praying before the time has entered is voluntary. There is no harm in a person praying at times when there is no prohibition, such as praying the Duha prayer before the sun stands still, or praying before 'Asr before the time has entered; this would be voluntary.
As for praying before Maghrib, this is a time of prohibition. One does not pray voluntarily before Maghrib except for reasons, such as the eclipse prayer, the tawaf prayer for one who performed tawaf after 'Asr, or the greeting of the mosque. Likewise, voluntary prayer before 'Isha is not a problem, because it is not a time of prohibition. The sunnah of 'Isha is only considered the pre-prayer sunnah of 'Isha if it is after the time has entered, after the disappearance of the twilight. It is not a rawatib. The sunnah before Maghrib and before 'Isha is not called rawatib, but it is a sunnah; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 2:264 Then he said regarding the third: And he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1283Sahih (Al-Albani) And he said regarding the third: This indicates the recommendation of praying before Maghrib due to these hadiths. Yes.
