The Punishment of the Sorcerer in This World and the Hereafter
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the punishment for one who practices sorcery and harms people? What is his punishment in this world and the hereafter, O Shaykh?
Answer:
If it is known that he is a sorcerer, then he is one who associates partners with Allah. His punishment in this world is execution, and in the hereafter it is the Fire, if he dies upon his sorcery and does not repent. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Surat al-Baqarah: 102], which indicates that sorcery is disbelief.
Therefore, it is obligatory for one who practices it to repent to Allah. If he dies upon his sorcery, he becomes a disbeliever from the people of the Fire; because sorcery is among the effects of calling upon the Shayatins, seeking aid from the Shayatins, and turning to them. Thus, it is disbelief due to what follows from it, namely calling upon the jinn and seeking aid from the jinn—may Allah protect us from that. This is the obligation regarding the hereafter.
As for this world, it is obligatory for the authorities, if they know of a sorcerer, to execute him. 'Umar ibn al-Khattab ordered the execution of sorcerers. He ordered his governors in Sham to execute sorcerers. And Hafsah had a slave girl who practiced sorcery, so she executed her. The sorcerer is executed in this world, and if he dies upon his sorcery, he dies a disbeliever. We ask Allah for well-being. Yes.

And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve
