Question:
What is the grade of this hadith:
If the Final Hour comes while you have a shoot of a plant in your hands and it is possible to plant it before the Hour comes, you should plant it.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 27:4
?

Answer:
It is authentic; it was narrated by Ahmad and others with a sound chain of narration.
The meaning is: encouragement to work. Otherwise, it is known that when the Hour comes, one cannot accomplish anything. But the intent is encouragement to work, and that a person should work. It contains an exhortation to agriculture and planting, and that a believer should be a person of work, not one of idleness and laziness as some people do. No, a believer should be a person of work, of activity, and of ambition in agriculture, in planting trees, and in various types of earnings: from carpentry, from blacksmithing, from planting, from writing, or otherwise. He should not remain idle, but rather work.
And in "Sahih" it is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
For every joint of yours is a charity
. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what if he does not find? He has no money. He said:
He should work with his hands so that he may benefit himself and give in charity
Sahih al-Bukhari 6022
. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heartاحرص على ما ينفعك، واستعن بالله ولا تعجزنَّ
Sahih Muslim 2664
. The hadith was narrated by Muslim. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said at the beginning of this hadith:
The stronger believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4168Sahih (Darussalam)
. And from the strength of the believer and the perfection of his religion is: work, diligence, and activity in seeking sustenance.
And from that, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said when asked: Which earning is the purest? He said:
A man’s work with his hand and every business transaction which is approved
Mishkat al-Masabih 2783
.
And from this is what al-Bukhari narrated in "Sahih" that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Nobody has ever eaten a better meal than that which one has earned by working with one's own hands. The Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah, David used to eat from the earnings of his manual labor.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2072
.
