Question:
May Allah guide you, Shaykh. My father is a man of middle age, may Allah guide him. He is diligent in performing the five daily prayers in the mosque in congregation, and he commands us to enjoin good and forbid evil. Allah has afflicted him with intoxicants—may Allah protect us from that—he drinks it once a week. We do not see him when he drinks it, and we do not know where he drinks it. And he warns us against it.
We ask your Eminence to give him advice and clarify his ruling, as he is with us in this mosque. May Allah preserve you.
Answer:
Intoxicants are among the ugliest of major sins, among the ugliest of destructive sins—may Allah protect us. It is obligatory for every Muslim to be wary of them, to stay away from them, and not to drink any of them at all, not in a week, not in a month, not in a year, and not at any time. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah: 90-91]. 'Umar said when he heard the verse: We have stopped, we have stopped.
The point is that it is among the ugliest of major sins. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the mud of the wretched? He said: or he said: .
It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he cursed intoxicants, its drinker, its server, its presser, its one who presses it, its carrier, the one to whom it is carried, its seller, its buyer, and the one who eats its price—ten people—may Allah grant us safety.
So it is obligatory to be wary. And whoever consumes it should fear Allah and hasten to sincere repentance. Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 5578. He said: . This is a great warning. If he had strong faith, it would have deterred him. This indicates that his faith is weak, and for this reason he proceeded to this sin and this crime.
And you—O sons—it is upon you to advise him constantly, and not to despair, with kind words and good manner, even if he is your father. It is upon you to advise him constantly, with wisdom and good manner, and to warn him of Allah the Exalted, and to strive in the means of his safety from this affliction. And you are upon good, but without harm and without violence.

Allah the Exalted said:
(90) O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. (91) Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?
The point is that it is among the ugliest of major sins. Indeed, Allah has a covenant with whoever dies while drinking intoxicants to make him drink from the mud of the wretched.
إنَّ على الله عهدًا لمَن مات وهو يشرب الخمرَ أن يسقيه من طينة الخبالThe dregs of the people of the Fire
عُصارة أهل النارthe sweat of the people of the Fire

An adulterer, at the time he is committing illegal sexual intercourse is not a believer; and a person, at the time of drinking an alcoholic drink is not a believer
لا يزني الزاني حين يزني وهو مؤمن، ولا يشرب الخمر حين يشربها وهو مؤمنAnd if he prays and fasts and claims that he is a Muslim
