Ruling on Mixed-Gender Employment

Question:
The questioner says: “May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, O honorable Shaykh. I work in a job with women. What is the ruling?”

Answer:
This is dangerous. Working with women carries a great danger, because being close to them, looking at them, and mixing with them is a means to much evil. My advice to him is to stay away from this job and work in a field for men, not in a field for women, even if there is a high salary, because what is with Allah is better and more lasting. Let him move from working with women to working with men instead of working with women. Women should have women to take care of them, such as a female doctor with female doctors, and a female nurse with female nurses, and so on. A man should be with male nurses if he is a nurse, and with male doctors if he is a doctor. If he is careful in this and fears Allah in this, Allah will make his affairs easy. But if he is lax and prefers the salary and this world, that is the great danger that is feared for his religion, and it is feared that his morals will deviate because of this laxity.
