What is better for the traveler: fasting or breaking the fast?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the Islamic ruling on the fasting of the traveler?

Answer:
The ruling for the traveler is that he is given a choice: if he wishes, he fasts, and if he wishes, he breaks his fast. Breaking the fast is better; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
It is not righteousness that you fast on a journey.ليس من البِرِّ الصومُ في السفر
Sahih al-Bukhari 1946
. So if he breaks his fast, that is better. And if he fasts because fasting is easier for him, there is no harm. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions fasted and also broke their fasts.
