Ruling on Renting Shops for Blameworthy or Doubtful Matters

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on renting commercial shops to one who opens a barbershop, a women’s tailoring shop, or a shop for selling video tapes or singing tapes?

Answer:
Shops are not to be rented to one who rents them for sins against Allah; rather, they are to be rented to one who rents them for what is permissible. So, if one rents them to shave people’s beards, or to sell entertainment equipment, or to sell intoxicants, or any of the sins, they are not to be rented to him. It is not permissible in any place, whether in America or in any other place, and even if he is a Muslim, it is not permissible for him to assist in sins against Allah, neither by renting nor by any other means.
