Ruling on renting shops to banks, tobacco shops, barbers who shave beards, and sellers of obscene magazines and the like.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When Allah forbids something, He forbids its price. إن الله إذا حرّم شيئًا حرّم ثمنه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 26:35
. Therefore, the fee for performing a forbidden act is forbidden. This includes some people renting their shops to barbers who shave beards; this fee is forbidden and is not lawful for the shop owner, because he was hired for a forbidden act.
Also included in this is renting shops to banks, for renting to banks is forbidden, because the bank’s transactions are entirely, or mostly, forbidden. If there is a lawful transaction in it, it is contrary to the original purpose for which this bank was established. The original purpose of establishing banks is for usury (riba). So if a person rents his house or shop to a bank that deals in usury (riba), the fee is forbidden and is not lawful for the house owner or the shop owner.
Likewise, if a person rents to someone who sells obscene magazines or magazines that corrupt ideas and contradict the Shari'ah, it is not permissible to rent shops to those who sell these magazines, because Allah the Exalted said:
but do not cooperate in sin and aggression ولا تعاونوا على الإثم والعدوان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
, and renting shops to these people is aiding them. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, when Allah forbids something, He forbids its price إنّ الله إذا حرّم شيئا حرّم ثمنه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 26:35
.
