Ruling on mentioning the faults of a deceased person who was greatly corrupt
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a deceased person was greatly corrupt, and we warn those who remain among his companions about his actions?
Answer:
If the corruption is apparent, there is no harm. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a funeral and they spoke ill of the deceased, he said: "It is settled!" He did not rebuke them. This is understood to apply when his sins are apparent. Therefore, one whose sins are apparent is not subject to the prohibition of backbiting.
