What is the ruling on removing a wrong that results in severing family ties?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on removing a wrong that results in severing family ties?

Answer:
If enjoining good and forbidding evil necessitates severing family ties, and the person does not pray, you boycott him. He is the one who severs the tie, not you. He is the one who severs it because he did what warrants his boycott. Likewise, if he engages in wrongs at his wedding feast, and you boycott his feast and do not accept his invitation because he drinks intoxicants at it, he is the one who severs the tie, not you. The one who severs the tie is the one who commits the wrong, not the one who boycotts him. So this is not severing ties, but rather obedience to Allah and His Messenger, forbidding evil, and boycotting one who deserves to be boycotted.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Muslims boycotted Ka'b ibn Malik and his two companions for fifty nights. Many of his relatives boycotted him, and they were relatives, in obedience to Allah and His Messenger. They did not call this severing ties.
