How is the zakah of money saved monthly calculated?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a Muslim saves a sum of money every month, how is the zakah on it calculated for this year?

Answer:
One pays zakah on each item once its lunar year of possession has completed. So, what he saves in Ramadan, he pays zakah on in Ramadan; what he saves in Sha'ban, he pays zakah on in Sha'ban; what he saves in Shawwal, he pays zakah on in Shawwal; and what is in Dhu al-Hijjah, he pays zakah on in Dhu al-Hijjah, and so on. He pays zakah on everything once its year has completed.
If he wishes to pay zakah on the entire amount in the first year that passes over his first salary, he may pay zakah on the whole. If he hastens to pay it before some of the later amounts have completed their year, there is nothing wrong with that, and he will receive reward. However, it is not obligatory; each salary is paid in its own time, and everything is paid once its year has completed.
