The Means of Assistance in the Face of Trials and Corruption

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Shaykh Abdul Aziz, the last question from our brother in this session asks: What is the way to limit the many widespread trials? He gives several examples, Shaykh Abdul Aziz.

The Shaykh: What are they?

The presenter: For example, singing, and video, and games, and so on?

Answer:
The student of knowledge must fear Allah, the Muslim man must fear Allah, and the Muslim woman must fear Allah and stay away from the causes of... each of them must stay away from the causes of destruction. This is not from the side of songs; for they divert from the path of Allah, divert from the remembrance of Allah, and harden the hearts. Allah called them idle talk, as He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledgeوَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ
[Luqman:6]. Most of the scholars said that idle talk is singing and the instruments of amusement that accompany it. And Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
Indeed, singing causes hypocrisy to grow in the heart just as water causes plants to grow.إن الغناء ينبت النفاق في القلب كما ينبت الماء الزرع
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:464
.
So it is obligatory to be cautious of that, and to advise one another to leave it. If one has musical instruments, whether people hear them or see them on video or on television or otherwise, all these matters require the believing man and woman to be cautious of them, and not to listen to the radio or watch on television except what benefits them in this world and the Hereafter. And each of them must be cautious of seeing on television or hearing on the radio what harms them. Rather, he should turn off the television if he sees what harms him, and turn off the radio if he hears what harms him. Thus he is wise and eager to benefit, taking the benefit when it comes, and turning off the device from evil when evil comes, whether he is alone or with his family, in the city or in the desert, whatever the case. Just as he listens to the benefit from the radio, in *Nur 'ala al-Debar* or the Quran radio or the like, he turns it off when something comes that he does not approve of in any radio station.
And so with the television, if he sees what benefits him, he takes it, and if he sees what harms him, he turns it off. This is if he is afflicted with it. If he is saved from it and stays away from it out of fear of its evil, that is better and more excellent. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
