Question:
The second question from our brother, the researcher and discussant on standing in night prayer, says: I hope you will clarify the best methods for preserving the Book of Allah? Knowing that I am eager to do so, and praise be to Allah, and I have memorized three parts so far?
Answer:
Among the best, most beautiful, and most beneficial methods is to have a specific time for memorization, and that the time be suitable, free from distractions, either at the beginning of the day after the Fajr prayer, or at night, or at any time he finds most suitable and where his heart is freest; so that he can study what is facilitated and memorize what is facilitated.
And with that, he seeks help from Allah, asking Him for success and assistance, and he strives in that. Also among this is staying away from sins and being cautious of them, for sins are among the causes of missing out on good and incurring evil.
Al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
I complained to Waki', meaning: his Shaykh.
I complained to Waki' of my poor memory
And he guided me to abandon sins
And he said, know that knowledge is light
The light of Allah is not granted to a sinner
So sins are among the causes of being deprived of good, deprived of acts of obedience, deprived of preserving the Qur'an, deprived of much good. So among the greatest causes for preserving the Noble Qur'an is caring for suitable times and being consistent with that, and staying away from sins and bad deeds, along with supplicating to Allah and asking Him, the Exalted, to assist you, to grant you success, and to bestow upon you the preservation of His Book, with sincerity in that, and that you intend by this preservation His Noble Face, and benefiting from His Book, and provisioning from the good therein. All of this is among the causes of success and guidance.
And if it is facilitated for you to have a good companion who helps you in preserving the Qur'an, this is also among the good causes. If you obtain a good companion who assists you in memorization and agrees on suitable times, this is also among the greatest help. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. What is the report from Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib regarding this, Shaykh Abdul Aziz? What is your statement?
The Shaykh: The supplication that is transmitted that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught Ali and ordered him to bow in four rak'ahs, and so on, is not preserved. Yes.
The presenter: It is not preserved.
The Shaykh: But if he supplicates with the supplications in it, there is nothing wrong with it; they are good supplications.
The presenter: The supplications are good.
The Shaykh: There is nothing wrong with them. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
