Question:
What is the correct method for memorizing the Noble Qur'an so that the Muslim, especially the Muslim woman, does not forget it when she leaves it off for a period due to an excuse?
Answer:
The method by which one memorizes the Book of Allah is to take care in reading it and not to be heedless, such that a man or a woman sets aside a suitable time in which to read the Book of Allah and repeat what he or she has memorized, so that it is not forgotten, whether at night or during the day at the appropriate time. This is the cause by which Allah aids one in its preservation. As for if one turns away and is heedless, that is among the causes of forgetting. However, it is obligatory for a person to strive for the causes of success that Allah has prescribed and made obligatory upon him. This is among the causes of Allah’s success for him in memorizing the Qur'an and other matters, if he strives to perform the obligations that Allah has made obligatory upon him and strives to avoid the prohibitions. Then, he should seek what aids him in memorizing the Qur'an, what aids him in increasing voluntary acts of worship, and what aids him in fulfilling his rights and the rights of his family. Indeed, Allah will aid him thereby, because he has prioritized His right and taken care of His right, the Exalted, by performing the obligatory acts and avoiding the prohibitions.
So if he allocates a portion of his time to memorize the Book of Allah and to study it extensively, then Allah will assist him in preserving His Book (Exalted and Majestic is He). He has arranged the effects according to their causes. A servant is only afflicted by his heedlessness, turning away, and negligence. If he is earnest in his pursuit and strives in what leads to the preservation of the Book of Allah—such as repeating the study, managing his time, and avoiding turning away and heedlessness—then Allah will assist him in that, along with supplicating to Allah and asking Him to assist him, to grant him success in preserving His Book, and to protect him from the harm of unforeseen circumstances. This means he should strive in supplication, asking his Lord that Allah will grant him success and assist him, and that Allah will protect him from the causes of failing to memorize. Yes.
