The Ruling on Performing Dhikr After Prayer in a Group

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message from one of our brother listeners. The sender (Y. M. R) says: Our brother, we presented part of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks and says: I saw in one of the mosques in some Islamic countries that when they finish every obligatory prayer, they glorify Allah in a group manner. That is, the imam says: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), and the followers say: Subhan Allah, until they reach thirty-three. Then the imam says: Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), and the followers say the same as him, and so on... Please inform us of the ruling on such an action. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon His servant and messenger, His choice from among His creation, and His trustee over His revelation; our Prophet, our Imam, and our Master Muhammad ibn Abdullah, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his path and is guided by his guidance until the Day of Judgment. As for what follows:
This action mentioned by the questioner, which is that the imam and the followers glorify, praise, and magnify Allah in a group manner after every prayer, has no basis. It is not among the prescribed sunnahs, but rather it is a religious innovation (bid'ah).
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged people to say Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar thirty-three times after every prayer. He did not do this with them in a collective manner; rather, he would remember Allah to himself, and each person in the congregation would remember Allah to himself. This is what is prescribed, so each person attends to himself: the imam attends to himself, and each person in the congregation does the same. After the taslim, he says: "Astaghfir Allah, Astaghfir Allah, Astaghfir Allah, Allahumma Anta al-Salam wa Minka al-Salam, Tabarakta Ya Dha al-Jalal wa al-Ikram." The imam, the ma'mum, and the one praying alone all say this. This is the Sunnah, as it is established from Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
When he finished the prayer, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would pray for forgiveness three times and say: 'Allahumma anta asalam, wa minka as-salam tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram (O Allah, You are the source of eace (or the One free from all faults) and from You comes peace, blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor)."كان النبي ﷺ إذا انصرف من صلاته استغفر ثلاثًا وقال: اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام، تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1337Sahih (Darussalam)
, and it is established from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) in Sahih Muslim that:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he finished saying: O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor, would turn to the people and give them his noble face (peace and blessings be upon him).
This indicates that the imam does this before he turns away, while he is still facing the qiblah.
Then he turns to the people and says:
There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belong the Kingdom and praise, and He has power over everything
Muwatta Malik 20:131
And if he adds, he says:
He gives life and causes death.
, so all of this is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And he also said:
There is no power and no strength except by Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the blessing, His is the favor, and His is the good praise. There is no god but Allah, sincere to Him in religion, even if the disbelievers dislike it. O Allah, there is no one who can prevent what You have given, and there is no one who can give what You have withheld, and the wealth of the wealthy does not benefit him against You.
Sahih Muslim 594a
This is established from the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), part of it from the hadith of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah and part of it from the hadith of Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them all).
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone extols Allah after every prayer thirty-three times, and praises Allah thirty-three times, and declares His Greatness thirty-three times, ninety-nine times in all, and says to complete a hundred:" There is no god but Allah, having no partner with Him, to Him belongs sovereignty and to Him is praise due, and He is Potent over everything," his sins will be forgiven even If these are as abundant as the foam of the sea.
Sahih Muslim 597a
Muslim narrated it in his Sahih. This indicates the legitimacy of this dhikr, and that each person says it by himself. He does not need to be with others. So performing it in a group manner by the group, or by the group with the imam, all of this has no basis. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718b
meaning: so it is rejected. And he also said (peace and blessings be upon him):
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, agreed upon for its authenticity.
So my advice to whoever does this is to leave it and for each person to glorify Allah by himself, independently, without the participation of others. May Allah grant everyone success and following the sunnah. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen.
