The Non-Prescription of Collective Dhikr After Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, he says: Is it permissible to recite the tasbih aloud after every obligatory prayer with the congregation?

Answer:
The Sunnah is to raise the voice with all the dhikr after the prayers, after the midday, afternoon, sunset, night, and dawn prayers. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Raising the voice with dhikr when the people leave the obligatory prayer was the practice in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I knew when they had left by that, when I heard it," meaning: he heard the voices of those remembering Allah after the taslim; so he knew that they had left. He was a young boy, who might not attend the congregational prayer, so he would hear their voices while outside the mosque. And when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he had reached the age of puberty. And this statement was made by him in his youth.
So the point is: that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his voice with dhikr, and so would the Companions after the taslim; for this reason, the Companions heard it and transmitted his (peace and blessings be upon him) dhikr. They heard him say when he gave the salam: "I seek forgiveness of Allah, I seek forgiveness of Allah, I seek forgiveness of Allah"
"O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity."
Sunan Abi Dawud 1512Sahih (Al-Albani)
and they heard him say: "There is no god but Allah," when he turned to the people and gave them his face, he would say:
There is no god but Allah, He alone has no partner, His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no power and no strength except by Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the grace, and His is the favor, and His is the good praise. There is no god but Allah, sincere to Him in religion, even if the disbelievers dislike it. O Allah, there is no one who can prevent what You have given, and there is no one who can give what You have prevented, and the wealth of the wealthy does not benefit him against You.
Sahih Muslim 594a
.
The Companions informed about the Prophet (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) regarding this: Thawban informed about some of this, and Ibn al-Zubayr about some of this, and al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah likewise. All of them informed about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that they heard him performing these dhikrs.
And likewise, tasbih is prescribed after every one of the five prayers to say: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar thirty-three times. Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar, repeating it thirty-three times. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that whoever does that and concludes it with the word of tawhid; his sins will be forgiven. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who recites after every prayer: Subhan-Allah (Allah is free from imperfection) thirty-three times; Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah) thirty-three times; Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest) thirty-three times; and completes the hundred with: La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa 'ala kulli shai'in Qadir (there is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent), will have all his sins pardoned even if they may be as large as the foam on the surface of the sea.
Riyad as-Salihin 1419
This is a great virtue.
And when the poor Muhajireen came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people of wealth - meaning: money - have taken the high ranks and the abiding pleasure; they pray as we pray, and fast as we fast, and give charity while we do not give charity, and free slaves while we do not free slaves..." meaning: we have no money, they give charity while we do not give charity, and they free slaves while we do not free slaves, we have no wealth. So he (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
Shall I not teach you something with which you may overtake those who surpassed you and with which you will surpass those who will come after you? None will excel you unless he who does which you do.
Riyad as-Salihin 1418
They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said:
Extol Allah, declare His Greatness, and Praise Him thirty-three times after every prayer
Sahih Muslim 595a
.
This indicates the virtue of this tasbih, tahmid, and takbir, and that it is concluded with La ilaha illa Allah - meaning: concluding the hundred - with La ilaha illa Allah, He alone has no partner, His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent, or adding one takbir to the takbir so that the takbir becomes thirty-four, completing the hundred. All of this is transmitted from the Prophet (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him).
And this dhikr is recommended at sleep as well. At sleep, one says tasbih thirty-three times, tahmid thirty-three times, and takbir thirty-four times. The total is a hundred at sleep. This is recommended because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught it to Ali and Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with them both) at sleep. And it is a teaching for them and for others of the Ummah. The teaching for Ali and Fatimah is a teaching for the entire Ummah. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good. So, is it not prescribed to do it loudly as a group, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh: It is prescribed, but in a moderate way, so that those around them hear it, and those outside the mosque hear that they have given the salam. There is nothing wrong with it, meaning, not forced. A normal, audible voice. Yes.

The presenter: In a collective manner, or each individual...

The Shaykh: Each one by himself, each one remembers Allah by himself. It is not collective, it is not collective.

The presenter: May Allah bless you, and may He do you good.
