The ruling on the suitor giving a ring to his fiancée

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is the ring that the suitor gives to his fiancée lawful or forbidden, with evidence? And is it true that it is a Christian idea?

Answer:
I do not know of any basis for it, and it was not the custom of the Muslims. What we have heard is that it is the custom of the Christians, and that it came to people from Lebanon and elsewhere. So what I see is that leaving it off is what should be done; it is safer and further from imitating the disbelievers. It has not reached us that our righteous predecessors did any of this. Rather, a man proposes to a woman, then he offers what is available of the bridal gift, and that is sufficient. As for the ring and the jewelry, they have no basis. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
