A Wedding Ring or Band
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The ninth question from Fatwa number ( 4127 )
Q 9: What is the ruling on a wedding ring or band that both the husband and wife wear, with the wife's name written on the man's band and the husband's name on the woman's band, along with the date of the engagement? Is it a religious innovation, or does it have a basis? And is the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to one of the Companions:Sunan an-Nasa'i 3359Sahih (Darussalam) evidence for the permissibility of wearing a wedding band?
A 9: First: What you mentioned regarding the engagement or married couple wearing an engagement or wedding ring or band as described has no basis in Islam; rather, it is a religious innovation in which ignorant Muslims and those weak in faith imitated the disbelievers in their customs. This is prohibited because it involves imitating the disbelievers, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against it. Second: There is no evidence in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to some of the Companions:Sunan an-Nasa'i 3359Sahih (Darussalam) for the prescription of what you mentioned; because he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him to do so to serve as the bridal gift for whoever wished to marry her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
