What a Woman May Reveal in the Presence of Her Mahrams
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A sister of ours from Riyadh, who indicated her name with the letters (K. A. 'A), says in her questions: Is it permissible to reveal the upper arm or the leg in the presence of mahrams?
Answer:
It is better for the believing woman to cover her leg and upper arm; because there is disagreement among the scholars, some of whom permit it for the mahram, and some of whom do not permit it, and the matter is serious. Therefore, the believing woman should cover that from her mahrams; so that no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) arises from it; because some mahrams may be tempted by it.
Therefore, she should cover the upper arm and the leg, and not let them see of her except the face, the two palms, and the two feet in the presence of her mahrams. This is the most cautious and best for her; to avoid evil and danger.
If they see her head, there is nothing wrong with it, but if she covers that and takes precaution, this is better, safer, and further from fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), especially in this age in which religion has weakened, the fear of Allah has decreased, and the mahrams, open sinners, and those who have become lax in religion have increased.
Therefore, the woman should strive in the means of safety, and be modest in her conduct in the presence of her mahrams, so that she is far from danger.
