The question: Your Eminence! This message came from Sulayman al-Salih from Riyadh, al-Shifa district. He says: To the honorable Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Baz (may Allah preserve him)!
What is permissible for a woman to reveal of her body to her mahrams, other than her husband? I ask for a detailed explanation; because nowadays in homes, women have greatly increased revealing themselves to their mahrams in an excessive manner, such as exposing the hair, the neck, the chest, the shoulders, the legs, and the like. We ask for clarification, may Allah guide you?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
The scholars have mentioned what is obligatory for a woman regarding covering herself in the presence of non-mahram men, and that she must veil herself from non-mahram men in all of her body; because she is 'awrah (a part of the body that must be covered). As for mahrams, the scholars mentioned that there is no harm in revealing to mahrams what is customary to reveal, such as the face, the hands, and the feet, so there is no concern in that.
And likewise the hair of the head, the forearm, and the like; all of this is permissible. However, it is better for her to be careful to cover herself except for what is customary to reveal, such as the face, the hands, and the feet, for there is no concern in that in the presence of mahrams, such as a brother, an uncle, and the like. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said in His noble Book: [Surat al-Nur: 31]. The intended meaning is the customary, known adornment. The face is part of the adornment, the hand is part of the adornment, and the foot is part of the adornment, so all of these are permissible.
And likewise, on the correct view, there is no harm in her mahram seeing her hair, such as her brother or her uncle and the like; because it is customary for such things to be visible among mahrams, so there is no blame in that. However, she should be careful to cover herself as much as possible; because some mahrams are not expected to be good and their evil is feared in this age. So, her covering herself except for the face, hands, and feet is the better and best option for her; as a precaution and to stay away from the causes of evil.
Otherwise, it is permissible for the mahram to look at the hair, the leg, and the forearm; all of this is permissible regarding the mahram on the correct view. However, it is better for her to be cautious for herself and not reveal except what is generally customary to reveal, such as the face, the palms, and the feet; this is the most cautious and best option for her; to stay away from evil and to protect herself from the causes of danger. Yes.

The Shaykh: Before this, we would like to say to the questioner regarding what concerns a woman with her mahrams: We will return to this matter... We will return in another discussion, if Allah wills, to investigate the topic and convey the words of the scholars in that, so that the questioner and others will be fully informed regarding a woman and revealing herself to her mahrams. We will return, if Allah wills, to this to investigate the topic and explain the words of the scholars and clarify the correct view in that in a more complete manner than what has preceded.
The presenter: You have done well, and may Allah bless you. Yes.
