It is obligatory for the father and mother to guide their children [al-Tahrim:6], Allah the Exalted commanded them to do this.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 893
So it is obligatory for the father to take care of the children and guide them, and likewise the mother; they are all accountable for what they did [al-Hijr:92, 93].

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًاAnd he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
All of you are guardians and responsible for your wards and the things under your care. The Imam (i.e. ruler) is the guardian of his subjects and is responsible for them and a man is the guardian of his family and is responsible for them. A woman is the guardian of her husband's house and is responsible for it.
كلكم راع وكلكم مسئول عن رعيته، فالرجل راع في أهل بيته ومسئول عن رعيته، والمرأة راعية في بيت زوجها ومسئولة عن رعيتهاSo it is obligatory for the father to take care of the children and guide them, and likewise the mother; they are all accountable
So by your Lord, We will surely question them all.
