The Ruling on Collective Supplication
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner from Yemen says: What is the ruling on collective supplication in general, if it is not linked to the end of the obligatory prayers? And what is the ruling on supplication during the Friday sermon; is it a recommended practice or not?
Answer:
If the supplication is incidental while people are gathered, and one person supplicates and the others say "Ameen," that is fine. However, if it is arranged as a regular practice where they gather specifically for collective supplication, that is not prescribed. But if they are gathered and one person supplicates and the others say "Ameen," the matter is broad in this regard, praise be to Allah.
As for supplication while the imam is delivering the sermon, if a moment of supplication comes and you say "Ameen" between yourself and your self, there is no blame on you. Otherwise, it is obligatory to listen attentively to the preacher until he finishes.
But if he supplicates and you say "Ameen" between yourself and your self, there is no blame on you, if Allah wills. Or if you remember the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and you send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between yourself and your self, there is no blame on you, if Allah wills.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
