The ruling on collective supplication after prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q219: The questioner, a Sudanese national, says: I have seen a group of worshippers who, after finishing their prayer, make supplication to Allah collectively after every prayer. Is this permissible? Please give us a ruling, and may Allah reward you.
A219: There is nothing wrong with supplication after prayer, but each Muslim should supplicate on his own, making supplication for his Muslim brothers and for the interests of his religion and his worldly affairs. He should supplicate individually, and the supplication should not be collective. As for collective supplication after prayer, it is a religious innovation (bid'ah); because it is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor from his Companions, nor from the blessed generations, that they used to make collective supplication, such as the imam raising his hands and then them raising their hands, and him supplicating while they supplicate. Raising the hands is among the innovations. As for each person supplicating on his own without raising his voice or causing disturbance, there is nothing wrong with that, whether it is after the obligatory prayer or after the voluntary prayer.
